Introducing, Plan for Neighbourhoods.

Ten years.
One vision.
One town.

NeighbourhoodLABS was a major moment in Scunthorpe’s story, bringing people together across the town to shape a long-term investment plan for our neighbourhoods.

Now, those conversations are helping inform Plan for Neighbourhoods: a government-funded programme (supported by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government – MHCLG), dedicating £20 million to strengthening our neighbourhoods over the next decade.

INTRODUCING THE START OF BIG CHANGE

WHAT was 'PLAN FOR NEIGHBOURHOODS?'

Ten neighbourhoods. Ten years. One vision. One town.

Plan for Neighbourhoods is designed to create a long-term investment plan for Scunthorpe, guided by the people who live, work and study here.

NeighbourhoodLABS was created to make sure this wasn’t about decisions being made at the top and passed down. Instead, it was about creating space for local voices to lead the conversation; and to help shape where and how funding should be invested over the next ten years.

GENUINE COMMUNITY IMPACT

THE AIM?

To amplify the voices that keep our community human, alive and evolving - ensuring that local people directly guide how this funding is invested.

How did we do it?

NeighbourhoodLABS brought together local residents, community leaders and organisations through a series of in-person events (alongside an online survey), capturing the insights, priorities and lived experience that matter most.

The result: clearer themes, stronger connections, and a growing shared sense of what Scunthorpe could become when people shape change together.

DISCOVER OUR WHY

A Partnership
For Change

Plan for Neighbourhoods is being delivered in partnership with North Lincolnshire Council, supported by a dedicated Neighbourhood Board, with Scunthorpe Tomorrow driving community engagement.

It also builds on the foundations already laid through previous initiatives; including PlaceLAB 1, 2 and 3 and the Community Cohesion Project. NeighbourhoodLABS was the next step in that journey: continuing to connect voices across the town, and turning momentum into action.

What we heard

NeighbourhoodLABS was rooted in one simple belief: the future of Scunthorpe should be shaped by the people who know it best.

Across the events, we asked:

  • What do you love about your town?
  • What do you hope for your children and grandchildren?
  • What opportunities do you want to see for your community?

Thank you to everyone who came along, shared ideas, and helped shape the conversation. Every contribution helped create a stronger picture of what matters most — and what needs to happen next.
